America’s Greatest Artist and Good Tidings Foundation Founding Partner passed away in New York on June 20th. In his 91 years, he has given us so many gifts through his colorful, expressionistic artwork. He was an innovator on so many fronts and lived one of the most interesting lives of all time. Affectionately known as the rapscallion with the handlebar mustache, Neiman defined the world in vibrant color and took special pleasure in connecting with his wide-ranging fans and collectors. Neiman, who sold more art than any other artist ever, has authored 15 books and Amazon.com lists 184 titles in which he is a contributor or the contributing artist. His archives are part of the Archives of American Art at the Smithsonian Institution. He was the official artist of just about everything – the Olympics, MLB, NFL, NHL, the Masters, Halls of Fame, America’s Cup, Presidents and Heads of State. He called Frank Sinatra and Mohammed Ali his close friends. It all began at the age of ten, on his grade school playground of St. Vincent’s in Duluth, when he began plying his trade as a tattoo artist to his classmates. His legacy will forever inspire other young artists at Good Tidings’ Art Center on Pier 9 in his name.
